Mission
Statement
New City Dance Co. is
dedicated to providing each of it's dancers a true education in dance. We
believe that dance is an art to be studied and learned.
We as an academy of classical ballet and other forms of dance are dedicated to
giving our students an education in a professional and nurturing environment
which will help develop discipline, dedication and self-confidence.
The History
New City Dance Co. was founded by Jill
Hollingsworth in 1992. Originally the school was named New City Ballet. In the
early 90's the schools main focus was classical ballet as it seemed that
ballet was what the majority of students were interested in. One of those
students was Sarah Edwards. Sarah had a passion and dedication to ballet that
exceeded most twelve year olds. She loved dancing hour after hour, class after
class.
Dancers of this small school were being accepted to prestigious schools like Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet,
Cornish and many others. Sarah was one of these students and after her first
year dancing in New York City with Joffrey Ballet School she knew that this is
what she wanted to do with her life.
She knew that through this beautiful art we
could inspire people of all ages. Whether they are dancers or observers,
somehow dance touches people souls.
In the Fall of 2003 Sarah, now Sarah
Edwards-Strode bought New City Dance Co. She owned the academy for four
very successful years and looks forward to what the future brings.
In February 2008 Sarah sold the academy to another
original New City Ballet student. Her name is Jennifer Olszewski.
Jennifer is looking forward to sharing her passion and knowledge of dance with
her students and the community.
