New City Dance Co. is dedicated to providing each of it’s dancers a true education in dance. We believe that dance is an art to be studied and learned.
We, as an academy of classical ballet and other forms of dance, are dedicated to giving our students an education in a professional and nurturing environment which will help develop discipline, dedication and self confidence.
It is also important for us to increase diversity within the dance community. New City Dance Academy is proud to be accepting of ALL dancers, no matter their race, identity, or sexual orientation.
New City Dance Co. was founded by Jill Hollingsworth in 1992. Originally the school was named New City Ballet. In the early 90’s the school’s main focus was classical ballet. Dancers of this small school were being accepted to prestigious schools like Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Cornish, Burklyn Ballet Theatre and many others.
In the Fall of 2003 Sarah, now Sarah Edwards-Strode bought New City Ballet. She then changed the name to New City Dance Company to reflect the importance of all dance forms.
In February 2008 Sarah sold the academy to another original New City Ballet student, Jennifer Olszewski.
Jennifer ran the studio for 9 successful years before selling it to Franchesca Rivera-Fobes, another original New City Ballet student.
Franchesca looks forwards to continuing the reputation of excellence the studio has gained. She has recognized the lack of diversity within the dance community, and hopes to help all dancers feel like they belong in the studio, regardless of their appearance.
