New City Dance Co. is dedicated to providing each of it’s dancers a true education in dance. We believe that dance is an art to be studied and learned.
We, as an academy of classical ballet and other forms of dance, are dedicated to giving our students an education in a professional and nurturing environment which will help develop discipline, dedication and self confidence.
New City Dance Co. was founded by Jill Hollingsworth in 1992. Originally the school was named New City Ballet. In the early 90’s the school’s main focus was classical ballet. Dancers of this small school were being accepted to prestigious schools like Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Cornish, Burklyn Ballet Theatre and many others.
In the Fall of 2003 Sarah, now Sarah Edwards-Strode bought New City Ballet. She then changed the name to New City Dance Company to reflect the importance of all dance forms.
In February 2008 Sarah sold the academy to another original New City Ballet student. Her name is Jennifer Olszewski. Jennifer’s passion for dance began at an early age. Through the years this love of dance has given her the opportunity to perform, travel, and meet many interesting people. Some of her favorite times have been while performing in the community when she could see that a dance, or music from a dance, has transported someone to another place or time.
As a studio owner she looks forward to giving other people the opportunity to pursue their dreams as she was given the opportunity to pursue her dreams. As a teacher she looks forward to watching her students grow into wonderful people as well as wonderful dancers.
